چکیده

This study deals with the analysis of delay and loss performance of an ATM multiplexer receiving Constant Bit Rate (CBR) cell streams which have been exposed to Cell Delay Variation (CDV). The CBR cell stream are exposed to CDV in a single FIFO multiplex described by a diffusion model. Furthermore, the queueing performance of the superposition of such cell streams when offered to a FIFO queue is carried out by an application of the Benes result. The study also considers the CDV behaviour after the CBR cell stream has passed through a series of queues based on a simple model. All investigations are illustrated by numerical examples. Cell Delay Variation and Burst Expansion in ATM Networks: Results from a Practical Study Using Fairisle

Current interest in cell delay variation in ATM networks arises from the need to provide guarantees on loss and delay for traac with real time constraints. This study uses the Fairisle ATM LAN to measure the CDV experienced by CBR and periodic, bursty sources when multiplexed with Bernoulli, VBR video and LAN interconnection traac, in a network of non-blocking ATM switches. We nd that higher bi...

A Novel Cell Scheduler with QoS Guarantee for Services in ATM Networks∗

Real-time services, including constant bit rate (CBR) and real-time variable bit rate traffic (rt-VBR), have become increasingly important owing to the rapid proliferation of multimedia applications. A cell multiplexing method capable of handling real-time traffic should satisfy related quality of service (QoS) requirements, including cell transfer delay (CTD), cell delay variation (CDV) and ce...

A Simulation Study of Delay and Delay Variation in ATM Networks, Part 1: CBR Traffic

Through comprehensive simulation studies, we have evaluated the ATM layer end-to-end performance of a Constant Bit Rate (CBR) MPEG2 connection. For most practical cases that we have considered, a Cell Delay Variation (CDV) value of 160sec is obtained (using 155 Mbps OC-3 rate), well below the 1 msec worst case stated in prior studies 1]]2]. The results also indicate that the Uniform distributio...

Submitted to ICIP ’ 97 MULTIPLEXING VBR VIDEO SEQUENCES ONTO A CBR CHANNEL WITHLEXICOGRAPHIC

We apply a novel lexicographic framework for bit allocation to the multiplexing of multiple VBR video streams onto a single CBR channel. In the lexico-graphic framework, the maximum distortion is minimized , then the second highest distortion, and so on, resulting in nearly constant quality. With a suitably constructed multiplexing model, we show that the mul-tiplexing problem reduces to a sing...

Simulation Comparison of Link Scheduling Algorithms: Impacts on Cell Delay Variation

The paper presents preliminary results on the impact of two link scheduling algorithms on CDV (Cell Delay Variation). The traditional FIFO queueing is compared with two versions of the Virtual Spacing algorithm proposed by Roberts in 12, 13]. The intercell time distribution and the 1-point CDV imposed on a CBR traac are investigated. The simulation connguration is a queueing model for a sequenc...
